All these events are aimed at enhancing local craft, agriculture and services; they can be international, national and regional, and can also involve the participation in promotional projects abroad. Besides the successful Macfrut, TransWorld and Agro.Bio.Frut, famous at national and international levels, both for the number of exhibitors and foreign and local visitors, other events have also grown stronger and can now boast good growth prospects for the future. Well above all of them is Arredo Casa with its 4 editions so far, greatly appreciated both by public and exhibitors. Major importance has Agri Cesena's careful search for new promotions and collaborations: examples of this remarkable commitment are the participation to A.E.F.I. (the Association of Italian Trade Fair Centres) and the collaboration with Rimini Trade Fair Corporation, for the creation of an important fair dedicated to the entire sugar industry. It is also worth mentioning the meeting activities, which not only take place during Macfrut, TransWorld and Agro Bio Frut, but are also organised in autumn and winter, for a yearly average of 20 congresses and meetings. Agri-Cesena boasts a capillary network of activities that aims to significantly develop its Shows - especially on an international level - sensibly improving their "fair-and-meeting" strategies and profile, as well as enriching them with new projects and contents (not just fair-related, economic and business, but also technical, scientific and cultural). It is therefore possible to say that fair events have consolidated as a great stimulus for local economy and Agri Cesena plays a more and more important role as organiser of Cesena's fairs. Organised by Agri Cesena, Macfrut 2000, (4 to 7 may) is a major event for operators in the agro-industry, producers, marketing experts, Italian and foreign researchers, the biggest fruit and vegetable exhibition in Europe. The show particularly focuses on the main issues presently concerning Italian fruit and vegetables, from recent years' drop in the active balance of fruit and vegetable trade to the production surplus problem. South Africa and India will be privileged guests at Macfrut's 17th edition this year: an exhibition area of 50,000 sq. m to host an entire world of agriculture, from machinery to electronic graders, from packaging to the novelties for the cold chain. India, for instance, is to be wholly discovered, with about half of its population (600 million) being vegetarian and at least 200 million people with a spending power equal to that in the US and Europe. Together with Macfrut, Cesena will host Trans World, a show of agro-food transport, and Agro Bio Frut, a show of "clean" farming. Two other shows, one on seeds and the other on organic production of the Mediterranean region are also of great interest. The calendar of the congresses is also rich and interesting: they will tackle major current issues concerning the agri-business, from technological progress as regards equipment for biological agriculture to the role played by irrigation techniques in agriculture, from organic horticultural seed production and marketing to the problem transport of good in Europe, from recyclable packaging material to last year's fruit and vegetable consumption in Italy.
