BUSINESS SERVICES AND DEVELOPMENT POLICY
Responsibility for the province's economic development is not limited to business operators alone, but is an integral part of the culture of local institutions. The affirmativeattitude taken by provincial and municipal agencies and the Chamber of Commerce has produced good results, including the creation of a whole network of
organizations offering business services. Centuria, Cesena's Science and Technology Park, is an example of cooperation among public agencies, trade associations and leading agro-industrial enterprises. The Park's top priority projects involve the development of applied research, technology transfer, support to industry entrants, and management of logistics and network services. Its most significant accomplishment so far has been to set up working relations between enterprises and the universities.
The development of higher education in Romagna is another focus of provincial policy. Besides the Advanced School for Translators and Interpreter, Forlì and Cesena host university branches offering degrees in economics and business, political science, computer science, psychology, food sciences and technology, and engineering (mechanical, aerospace, electronic, computer, telecommunications). The Interdepartmental Research Centre for Marine Science (C.R.I.S.M.), located in Cesenatico, has become in a few years' time one of Europe's centres of excellence for the study of problems related to protection of the marine environment.
The science and technology reference point for the footwearindustry is CERCAL, part of the ERVET System's Centres for Business Services. This organization provides training and technical assistance as well as updated information on fashions, markets, new technology and innovative production processes.
