THE TRADE FAIR CORPORATION AND RIMINI FAIR Rimini's fair activities date back to the early 50s. In 1968 Rimini Trade Fair Corporation was created and the present exhibition district realised for shows which soon made Rimini a number-one reference point in the Italian exhibition sector panorama. The Corporation fine-tuned its specific know-how, which entailed a continuous business expansion, highlighted by a significant sales increase as well as by a ballooning number of expos, exhibitors and visitors. A development policy that needed the best facilities ever to ensure competitiveness on the world market. This explains the substantial investments made here: the construction of a new Trade Fair District, designed and planned to meet ambitious goals in the foreseeable future: Riminifiera2001.it THE EXPOS
The Corporation's "products" - expos - are characterised by a constant, successful growth trend. Rimini Fair intends to continue its specific corporate mission, which involves the specialisation of its events, mainly targeting the "business-to-business" sector, and the decision to manage its expo projects directly.24 international fairs, including 18 based in Italy: Rimini, Cesena, Parma, Verona, Pesaro; abroad: in Brazil (São Paulo) and China. 7,198 exhibitors in 1999 778,741 visitors in 1999 220,000 sq. mt. Sold in 1999 41 billion turnover in 2000 SUPERIOR KNOW-HOW IN THE FOLLOWING SECTORS: - hospitality, music and multimedia - amusement and entertainment - travel and tourism - investment goods THE NEW TRADE FAIR CENTRE Riminifiera2001.it is the name given to Rimini's new fair reality. A name and a logo borrowed from the Internet language to convey the sense of its projection towards the future. To achieve this goal, Rimini Fair has a strategic development plan based on the enhancement of its shows, its highly competitive rates, an aggressive promotional activity together with effective communication. The step from the virtual-design phase to actual operation will come with the realisation of the new fair centre. Starting date, the year 2001. THE CONTEXT: RIMINI The international renown of Rimini as "the city of a hundred sides of tourism" is due to local people's natural vocation for hospitality, combined with their great entrepreneurial skills. Rimini and the surrounding area have thus become the ideal destination for a great variety of tourists: those preferring the beach, fitness, sport, culture, nature, thermal springs, as well as congresses and expos. THE NEW FAIR DISTRICT PROJECT In 2001, Rimini Fair will become a leader amongst Italy's expo venues, as far as size and dynamic organisation are concerned and the quality of its services will be almost unique, based on the very latest, functional, technological standards. This technological innovation is strengthened by a touch of tradition. History, culture and hospitality, together with the flexibility of our work have a tangible effect on the forms of our new fair district. The new Rimini Fair is presently a building site, where hundreds of workers daily guarantee its on-going evolution.
This project was designed by Von Gerkan & Marg Studio(Hamburg) in accordance with both Rimini's variance zoning and the Corporation's specifications.- 20th January: Inauguration - 256 billion investment - 127,000 sq. mt. useable area - 12 exhibition stands (15 mt. high) - 6000 car parks - 4th fair pole in Italy THE ARCHITECTURAL PHILOSOPHY The design of the new Rimini Fair premises is meant to honour Emilia-Romagna's great architectural tradition, especially its ancient times and Renaissance. It therefore prefers linearity and symmetry and quotes classicism as regards both typologies - loggias, porticoes, peristyles, ponds - and the architectural features of the buildings. Such homage paid to classical antiquity and to local culture perfectly integrates construction technological innovations and the use of high-tech materials. FLEXIBILITY The new Fair's key feature will definitely be flexibility. As a matter of fact, its premises will be able to successively or simultaneously host shows diverse in size and/or sector profile. Conferences, seminars and other events connected to trade fairs can take place simultaneously with no space or service problem. LOCATION PLAN The central entrance leads to a large square - la Piazza degli Eventi - known as "Tetrapilo" for its four high towers. In front of the square is a central building for general services, that includes a spacious foyer and a large rotunda with a dome vault. Behind it is the main restaurant overlooking a garden. Next to central building, 12 expo halls that can be reached trough internal walkways alongside a 18-m-large space to be used for exhibition purposes or filled with water as reflecting ponds. This space ends eastward and westward with glass-sheltered courtyards with fountains. ACCESS The main entrance opens in front of a large and welcoming square at the end of a long avenue lined with trees and leads to the several, sometimes simultaneous, shows. South door provides simultaneous access to three different shows. Eastbound and Eastbound entrances increase the expo centre's flexibility by facilitating visitors' access to those stands located further from main entrance. THE EXPO HALLS The one-span halls, with no internal pillars (so as to maximise the usability of exhibition spaces), are 60-m-large, air conditioned and completely cabled with fibre optics. EVENTS PIAZZA Conferences are hosted on the first floor of the permanently equipped central hall's back part: a hall with 700 seats or two 300-seaters and various smaller ones to be variably arranged in size and function. Events and other activities can be held in the big area in front of the main entrance, beneath or around the four towers to be used for lighting or sounding purposes. SERVICE AREAS Service areas for the visitors, support activities for the running of the exhibition stands and the technical facilities are located both next to each entrance and to the expo halls. Goods and materials movements for the show organisation and dismantling are made possible on an internal flow lines road system, which can be reached through six driveways (two per each entrances, N, S, W). Car parks are at ground level and separated from passing and heavy traffic. They are connected by an internal shuttle bus. One third of the space available has camping service facilities. NEW TRANSPORT TERMINALS Rimini Trade Fair Corporation is organising two specific terminals. - An internal rail station for special or scheduled trains coming from national railroad network. - The Fair terminal, connecting Rimini with Riccione. The project has entirely been designed according to the intermodal transport system. |
