The Agro-Industrial District

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY The first spark behind the creation of Romagna's information technology companies came from the agro-industry. But today the software sector looks beyond the need to technologically upgrade local companies and robotize the movement of the articulated systems of fruit processing machinery. That first start however was indeed fundamental for the solution of administrative and commercial problems in the agro-industrial sector. Today, in fact, Romagna has a consolidated know-how which is exported to many other agro-industrial regions; and which is continuously evolving in the face of the new needs that rise in the sector. Such know-how has represented an indispensable support to management growth in agro-industrial enterprises. Software has also been designed for automating fruit and vegetable warehouses, but other important experience also exists within the field of the automation of production processes and of computer-assisted technical drawing (CAD-CAM). Moreover, a company leader in the manufacture of personal computers has been operating in Cesena for some years now. More recently, other significant experience has developed in the information and database management over the Internet, as is testified by In Agro, a consortium for human resources enhancement in the agro-industry that offers an info-point at www.inagro.it, and by www.agraria.it, the first Internet portal entirely dedicated to Italian agriculture.
